The new day rule

Updated: Aug 27, 2022

A while back, I decided to operate based on a new rule- the new day rule.

What does that mean?

Simply put, every day is a fresh start. It doesn’t matter what took place the day before, what interactions you had, how tough your day was, how tired you felt- today is a new day, and that’s all you’ll be focusing on!

And then that day is over. It’s done and dusted, and a new one begins, and so on.

It’s like getting a new chance every single morning, and who wouldn’t want that?

This “rule” came about as a way to combat my perpetual habit of overthinking.

I caught myself spending hours analyzing every conversation , every email, and every thought.

And when I ran out of things to think about, I’d conveniently remember something from over 10 years ago, and spend my day mentally dissecting that!

After coming to the realization that this was in fact a complete waste of time, and a pointless exercise, I came to understand that overthinking was just a bad habit I got stuck in, and I needed to retrain my brain to think differently.

For some reason, we think people are sitting there taking note of our every blunder and every mistake.

But guess what? Noone cares!

People are busy living their own lives, too wrapped up in their own issues to focus on yours.

So cut yourself come slack, and use your time to achieve, learn and grow.

We only have one life to live, stop wasting it on useless habits- follow the new day rule and thrive!
